For Birch Bay woman, 91, life never gets old
Some might say Joy MacKinnon Oravetz, of Birch Bay, has led a full life but that doesn’t mean she has stopped living.
Semiahmoo Resort voted “Best Destination” site
Semiahmoo Resort has been voted the “Best Northwest Destination Wedding Site” for 2010 in Seattle Bride magazine’s “Best of 2010” July issue. Semiahmoo was recognized for its “Many indoor and outdoor wedding locales in the same resort.”
Thanks to a few concerned citizens and volunteers at the Whatcom Marine Mammal Stranding Network (WMMSN), two Birch Bay seal pups are getting a second chance at life.
Nicole Miller, l., of Birch Bay, and Betsy Sandell, of Blaine, are both training to walk in the Susan G. Komen annual walk to raise money for breast cancer research.
In more than 100 degree heat, the Blaine 10U team competed last Thursday and Friday with three wins against Ephrata, Brewster and Warden, and two losses to Wenatchee and Ellensburg.

Run to the Border scheduled for Saturday, August 7
The 9th Annual Run to the Border this August 7, which is now part of Blaine’s Drayton Harbor Days.
City gets $450,000 grant for H Street improvements
The city of Blaine will be able to improve the portion of H Street that leads into downtown thanks to a $450,000 federal grant.
The 87-mile-overnight Ragnar Relay Northwest Passage starts in Blaine, Friday, July 23 and finishes in Whidbey Island, Saturday, July 24.
District gets final approval for Bay Horizon Park
Bay Horizon Park is a step closer to a new playground and gymnasium upgrades, thanks to a new partnership between Whatcom County, who owns the park, and Northwest Parks and Recreation District # 2.
