It’s unbelievable how quickly August has arrived. Although each day’s daylight lingers long, summer passes far too quickly. The remainder of summer is here for us to enjoy. And enjoy we will the warm days, brilliant sunshine, beautiful flora, friendly folks and wonderful activities at our Blaine Senior/Activity Center.

The Blaine Senior/Activity Center has true summer living gusto. So many great events are planned for August.  

Wednesday, August 13, the Hawaiian Days celebration with the Bellingham Ukulele Group (BUG) begins at 11:45 a.m. Join us for a tropical luau in paradise with BUG. Our lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. features Kahlua pork, rice, coleslaw, fresh melon and special dessert provided by the center. Wear your Hawaiian shirts and dresses.

 Enjoy lunch with the Peregrine Puppet Theatre on Thursday, August 14, at 11:50 a.m. Lunch at 11:30 a.m. with the Boys & Girls Club and children guests of the Senior Center. Join us in welcoming the Boys & Girls Club for lunch and a performance by Andy and the Peregrine Puppet Theatre as well as a clown act!

 On Friday, August 15, 11 a.m., sail away on the historical Plover! Take a ride and see the sea lions and large pink starfish at Semiahmoo. We will leave the center at 10:45 a.m. or meet at the marina. The boat will leave at 11 a.m. and return about 11:45 a.m., in time to eat lunch at the center. Sign up at the front desk. $3 donation per person.

 Tuesday, August 19 is the picnic birthday lunch at 11:45 a.m. with country music by the Hometowners. Celebrate August birthdays with cake and a picnic.

Wednesday, August 20, 12:45-4:15 p.m. the senior center is taking a Birch Bay Day adventure. Ride the bus for free courtesy WTA with free passes. Meet at the Blaine Senior Center at 12:30 p.m., catch the free ride on the bus to go to beautiful Birch Bay near The C Shop. Grab an ice cream cone, shop, walk the nearby trails or hang out at the beach. The bus leaves at 3:35 p.m. to return to Blaine. Sign up at the front desk so we can order the bus passes and plan the trip!

Spin’s Variety Show comes to Blaine Senior Center on Thursday, August 2 at 11:45 a.m. Join the famous Michael Spinale for his variety show featuring singing, harmonica and stories. Known for his Elvis act, he brings a new “spin” to entertainment! 

Come to the center Tuesday, August 26 at 6 p.m. for EZ Bingo. Open to the public. $10 admission for eight games, with three cards per game. A baked potato meal will be served at 5 p.m. for $6, with choice of toppings available for purchase until 5:45. Assorted snacks will be available for purchase during the 15-minute Bingo intermission.  Kids welcome.

 Bring your friendly canine friend and have a grilled brat on a bun under a canopy on the lawn on Thursday, August 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the Dog Days Picnic. We will have a surprise for your four-legged friend.

 The Senior Center will be closed Saturday August 30 through Monday, September 1 for Labor Day.
