The city is inviting residents to view the city’s new architectural guidelines for downtown Blaine.

On Thursday, July 17, the city is hosting an open viewing of the redrafted design guidelines and graphics, which will simplify the city’s architectural vision for Blaine to attract new developers.

The city of Blaine community development department drafted the new guidelines, which condenses and simplifies the building codes the city has used for the last 14 years, reducing the 30-page document down to two or three pages.

The new codes will allow the city to form new neighborhoods in the downtown area that will play to the city’s strengths, such as the beautiful views of Drayton Harbor and the proximity to residential neighborhoods. It’s also a way to send the message that Blaine is a development-friendly destination.

The public viewing will take place at Blaine City Hall on July 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. No RSVPs are necessary, and refreshments will be provided. For more information, contact community development director Michael Jones at 360/332-8311.
