The Haynie Opry is planning a tribute to late country legend George Jones.

Matt Audette and the Circle of Friends Band will perform covers of some of Jones’ best-loved songs at the Haynie Grange
Hall on Haynie Road on Friday and Saturday, July 11 and 12. The set will also feature a performance by Vicky Jo Bock, singing the songs of Tammy Wynette, Jones’ ex-wife and a country legend in her own right.

“George Jones was one of the legends of country,” Audette said. “When I heard of his passing last year, I just thought a tribute to him would be a no-brainer.”

The program will be split into two parts. The first half of the show will feature a selection of hits from Jones’ catalog between the 1950s and the 1980s, such as “These Days (I Barely Get By),” “White Lightning” and “She’s My Rock.” The first half will also feature a series of duets between Audette as Jones and Bock as Wynette.

The second half of the show is devoted to recreating Jones’ 1985 album “George Jones: Live For the First Time,” Jones’ first-ever live recording. Audette, who is known for his impersonations of famous country figures, will be recreating Jones’ signature vocal style for the show.

The Haynie Opry has been a showcase for Pacific Northwest country and western singers since 2005. Audette, a lifelong musician, founded the Opry and has been playing with the Circle of Friends Band for nearly 20 years.

Tickets can be purchased at Cozy Corner Books and Coffee, at either of their two locations: 3094 Northwest Avenue in Bellingham, or 5772 2nd Avenue in Ferndale. For more information, visit thehaynieopry.com.
