At a meeting of the Blaine Chamber of Commerce on July 2, community development director Michael Jones confirmed rumors that a new business has filed permits to open a second hotel on Semiahmoo spit.

The new hotel will not be an extension of the Semiahmoo Resort. The applicant is BlueRidge Semiahmoo Point LLC.

The proposed hotel would be a destination spa and wellness center. The total property would occupy 220,000 square feet along the south side of the Semiahmoo spit. BlueRidge is requesting up to 90,000 square feet to accommodate the 125 hotel rooms, and a 70,000 square foot spa.

Jones also confirmed that the company has requested to have residential permitting on the spit scaled back, allowing the hotel to occupy the required space.
