There are many wonderful things about the United States of America. Priceless freedoms have been given to us by our constitution and Bill of Rights; freedoms we are now enjoying were attained at the price of much sacrifice. With this in mind, and in honor of the multitude of heroes who have made our freedoms possible, we thankfully and joyfully remember our many blessings on our beloved nation’s anniversary.

Our nation’s birthday will be celebrated July 4. Along with a community parade and a community gathering of happy, hungry
throngs celebrating, we will remember our great American heritage at the Blaine Senior/Community Center. A delicious, affordable breakfast for one and all will be served from 8 to 11 a.m. Come and enjoy delicious pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee or tea, orange juice and friendly fellowship at your Blaine Senior/Community Center.

July has many additional events:

Monday, July 7 will be a movie day, with the featured film, “Yankee Doodle Dandy.” Yankee Doodle Dandy is a 1942 American biographical musical about George M. Cohan, known as “The Man Who Owned Broadway.” It stars James Cagney and is an American classic. We’ll see you at the movies.

Tuesday, July 8 will bring the Singles Supper Club. Sign up at the front desk each month to go out together and try a different restaurant (no host). July’s restaurant will be Vonna’s Purple Fin Restaurant in Birch Bay. Join the fun!

Remember, most Fridays we play Bingo at 1 p.m. and win prizes. Bring $1 to help the prize budget. You may even want to bring prizes as a donation.

Tuesday, July 15 is the day for EZ Bingo. This event is sponsored by Soundpath Health. Here is your chance to win cash and prizes and have fun winning them. A free meal will be served at 5 p.m. and games will begin at 6 p.m. Admission is $10.

Join Dennis Sakowski to celebrate summer on Thursday, July 17 at 11:45 a.m. His music and knowledge of where it came from is very enjoyable.

Thursday, July 24 will be the day for the DSHS Community Service Outreach program. Applications are available for various community services. Don’t miss them – the truck will be in our parking lot.

Also on July 24 there will be an Achieving Heart-Mind-Body Coherence information and demonstration session which will show attendees how to achieve psycho-physiological coherence. The program has been associated with optimal states of physical performance, wellness and healing as well as facilitating clearer decision-making and stress reduction.

Friday, July 25 at noon is the picnic and birthday lunch. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m., and the Dusty Road String Band will perform.

Summer is a time to celebrate. Let’s celebrate the friendliness of this nation’s people, be friendly and remain loyal to our wonderful country.
