Here’s hoping everyone has a wonderful June. Already we are enjoying colorful flora along our pathways. We have really tried to enjoy the rain and snow up to now, knowing that in June we will be thankful for all that rain, and also that perhaps most of it has passed.

In summer every little bit of nature’s refreshing drops may be welcomed. We look forward to golden days of summer and summer activities at the Blaine Senior Center.

Many interesting activities are coming up in June. Our EZ Bingo Happening on Tuesday, June 10 will give everyone the chance to enjoy fellowship and win cash and prizes. Concessions will be available at 5 p.m. and a meal will be served at 6 p.m. Admission for bingo is $10 and everyone is welcome.

We are looking forward to honoring our fathers, and celebrating Father’s Day a couple of days early on Friday, June 13. The popular Pakawallups will be here and we will be celebrating fathers with a patriotic show with songs made famous by the Andrew Sisters and other artists. Join us in keeping memories alive and hearts and spirits dancing! The group is named after their WWII-pilot father’s favorite plane.

Enjoy The Homeowners, who will play and sing country favorites and other songs from the past. Johnny Cash, Elvis, Eddy Arnold and others will provide lunchtime entertainment on Tuesday, June 17 at 11:45 a.m.

Wednesday, June 18 will feature origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. Origami involves the fine art of folding flat papers into interesting and decorative sculptures without using scissors or glue.

On Thursday, June 19 at 11:50 a.m. Dr. Steve Morris will demonstrate how to extinguish our fears and phobias without expensive drugs, hypnotism or psychotherapy at Achieve Emotional Freedom from Fear and Anxiety. Learn how intense emotional fear compromises our physical and mental abilities by triggering the body’s flight-fight-freeze response. Dr. Morris will give hands-on training on how to use human touch to lessen and even extinguish the fear response. This emotional freedom technique can be learned in minutes and practiced anywhere to achieve a relaxed state. Dr. Morris will share his own personal experience learning this technique as part of his rehabilitation following a spinal cord injury.

The Blaine Senior Pancake Breakfast will be held on Saturday, June 21 from 8 to 11 a.m. Attendees will have a choice of pancakes, waffles or French toast with fruit, scrambled eggs, sausage, coffee or tea and orange juice. Adults can eat for only $6 and children for $4.

On Monday, June 23 at 12:30 p.m. we will show the movie We Bought a Zoo, the story of Benjamin Mee and his family who purchase a dilapidated zoo and take on the challenge of preparing  it to reopen to the public.

June was designed for picnics, and a picnic and birthday lunch with musical entertainment by Larry Wheeler will take place on Thursday, June 26 at noon.

Play EZ Bingo at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 27 and win cash! For only a $10 admission you may play eight games with three cards for each game. This event is open to the public, so bring your friends and family. Assorted snacks will be available for purchase during intermission. This game will help support our regular Friday Bingo games. Kids can come play too, and they will also need to pay admission.

We are planning on having a wonderful June. Enjoy the Blaine Senior Center; there are many additional activities available, and you will be sure to find much to interest you.
