It’s all hands on deck at the Semiahmoo Resort this week, as Coastal Hotels management, staff and contractors work to get the long-vacant hotel up to snuff for its soft opening on Thursday, August 15. 

It’s a job so big that even the upper management and their families are chipping in to divide the labor.

“It’s a big hotel,” said Coastal Hotels president Yogi Hutsen. “I hope people will have patience with as we go through the process.” The hotel features a new exterior color scheme, resurfaced tennis courts and a revamped menu at Packers restaurant. 

The spa and fitness center is scheduled to open alongside the resort this week.

Franz Hoffman of Elements Hospitality refinishes the lobby balcony floor. Hoffman said he installed the floors in Semiahmoo nine years ago. The Lynden company was selected as the general contractor for the resort’s updates.

Ed Schwitzky, senior vice president for sales and marketing at Coastal Hotel Group, returns empty Keurig coffee maker boxes to a staging area. Each room has been outfitted with a Keurig and a 42” plasma television.
