Is it ever possible for us to fully realize the awesome summers of our great Northwest? The Blaine Senior Center seems  to be so aware. Life continues to be abuzz with summer activities and many activities have been planned in view of our pleasant summer weather.

One popular event, which will occur on Saturday, August 3, continues the celebration spirit. This is the scrumptious pancake breakfast. Pancakes, waffles or French toast with fruit, eggs, biscuits and gravy, sausage, coffee or tea and orange juice for only $6 for adults and $4 for children.

The new and fun game of Bunco will be played at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6, after the tall ship tour at 12:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, August 7 the senior center will be closed and seniors will meet at Hovander Park in Ferndale for a picnic lunch, informational talks, a chance to win prizes and a restful afternoon of music.

Another opportunity for fun comes on Tuesday, August 13 – play EZ Bingo and win cash! Pub burgers and taco salads will be available at 5 p.m.

Now for the day that you and your dogs have waited for: The Dog Days Picnic is taking place Friday, August 16. Bring your friendly canine friend and have a grilled brat under a canopy on the lawn. Your dog (or dogs) will be simply delighted. There will be a special surprise for your four-legged friend.

Another big event is the Peregrine Puppet Theatre coming on Thursday, August 22. Enjoy lunch with children from the Boys & Girls Club and your own young visiting friends. The Peregrine Puppet Theatre will perform Billy Goats Gruff and the Children Mouse Bride (a Mayan folk tale), and there will be a clown act.

Thursday, August 29 will feature a picnic and birthday lunch entertainment. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. Dennis Sakowski will perfom music during lunch.

Great plans have been made for August – enjoy them, and we’ll see you at the center.
