Tim Albertson shapes a balloon animal for Chelle Beautiful Entertainment. Albertson has been a balloon artist for about two years.

Micki Sutherland, 12, prompts parade-goers to shout “Arrr” in their best pirate voices. Sutherland was one of many children riding a float from Birch Bay Leisure Park in the July 20 parade.  

The JP Fell Pipe Band from Canada performs in the Birch Bay Discovery Days parade July 20.

Alexis Caudill rides the Pooch Palace float with her dog, Nixon. Pooch Palace grooms and boards dogs from their location at the Grandview Business Center in Ferndale.

Elizabeth Peterson, 4, makes her best pirate face from the back of Drayton Harbor Days float. The float was designed to resemble the tall ships that will appear in Blaine Marina as part of the annual festival August 4.

Gail MacDonald waves from her position of honor as the Queen of the Birch Bay Beach Babes. The organization is the local chapter of the Red Hat Society, which as more than 40,000 chapters worldwide. 

Mary Anderson, representing Everybody Bike, sports a custom chicken helmet  in the Birch Bay Discovery Days parade July 20. The distinctive headgear was made from a mask stretched over a regular bike helmet.
