The Birch Bay Watershed and Aquatic Resources Management group (BBWARM) will host a presentation on the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit and program at their monthly meeting on Wednesday, June 19. The meeting will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Station 62 Community Room, 9001 Semiahmoo Parkway in Blaine. Whatcom County Public Works Stormwater Division staff will be making the presentation.
The NPDES permit addresses stormwater runoff from areas designated through U.S. Census data and is administered by local governments to meet requirements of the Washington State Department of Ecology (DOE). In June 2012, the DOE decided to include the Birch Bay Urban Growth Area (UGA) in Whatcom County’s NPDES permit area beginning August 1, 2013.
The presentation will include an overview of the NPDES program, the requirements and deadlines of the permit, how the county meets those requirements and what it means for the Birch Bay UGA to be included under the permit.
Interested community members are encouraged to attend the meeting. For more information on Whatcom County’s NPDES program visit npdes.whatcomcounty.org or contact Cathy Craver at Whatcom County Public Works Stormwater Division at firstname.lastname@example.org
