Educational scholarships available for area women

Whatcom Women in Business, a nonprofit organization, will be giving up to $24,000 in scholarships to women who are furthering their education this year. 

The scholarships will be awarded to the top candidates after an application and panel interview process and awards will be based on professional goals, grade point averages, personal achievements, community service, extracurricular activities, financial need and interview skills.

Women eligible to participate must be high school graduates or seniors planning to graduate in the current year. They must also be a Whatcom County resident.

Whatcom Women in Business is a nonprofit organization consisting of business owners, managers and professionals who seek to provide a positive role model for the community through leadership and professional mentoring. 

The members of Whatcom Women in Business are dedicated helping women achieve success in their professional and personal growth. In 2012, the organization awarded $18,000 in scholarships to eligible women.
