Port of Bellingham Commissioner Jim Jorgensen was selected to serve as president of the port’s board of commissioners for 2013. The commissioners voted on his selection during their first meeting of the new year where they also chose Commissioner Michael McAuley to serve as vice president and Commissioner Scott Walker to serve as secretary.
Jorgensen, who represents District 3, began serving on the commission in 2004. He is a retired Blaine High School science teacher and former salmon charter business owner. Jorgensen chose this community role to be involved with the diverse operations of the port and to help communicate the port’s role in the community.
Jorgensen was also selected to serve on the board of the Whatcom Council of Governments. the commissioners chose Walker to continue serving as a trustee for the Washington Public Ports Association, where he also is on the executive committee.
McAuley was chosen to serve on the Whatcom County Economic Development Investment Program.
Commissioners also voted to continue holding their regular meetings at 3 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month.
