The Port of Bellingham’s Board of Commissioners announced their appointment of Rob Fix as the Port’s executive director on November 9.

The decision was unanimous, and the commissioners are confident in their choice, noting his experience as an employee of the Port since 2008 as well as his success as interim executive director since April 2012.

“Given his experience, local knowledge and the great strides he has made in the last few months – particularly on waterfront negotiations, we recognized that he was the best person to serve as the next executive director for the Port of Bellingham,” Commission president Scott Walker said.

During the past year, Fix also managed the Port’s real estate division. Prior to joining the Port of Bellingham, Fix was a partner and chief financial officer for MTM Luxury Lodging & FST Asset Management. He also served as the CFO for Trillium. Fix is a graduate of Washington State University with a Bachelors Degree in Hotel and Restaurant Administration.

The Commission also approved the compensation package for this position, which includes a $140,000-a-year salary, a $600-a-month car allowance, 10 percent-a-year deferred compensation and a four-month separation agreement.

Fix will assume his new role immediately.

The Port of Bellingham serves all of Whatcom County and operates the Bellingham International Airport, Bellingham Cruise Terminal, Fairhaven Station train depot, Squalicum and Blaine Marinas and the Bellingham Shipping Terminal.
