Levi Tucker, 23, allegedly fired several shots into the air Thursday, October 4, at his Birch Bay home in the 4300 block of Bay Road.

According to Whatcom County Sheriff Bill Elfo, Tucker was despondent over a breakup with his girlfriend and had, through phone conversations with friends, threatened to commit suicide by cop. Sheriff’s deputies responded to the threat and found

Tucker armed with a rifle. They prevented friends and family from entering the home, and crisis negotiators were called in to talk him down.

According to the sheriff’s office, Tucker was updating his Facebook page during the standoff.

After close to an hour of negotiations with a SWAT team and his father, Tucker left his house unarmed. He has been charged with felony harassment and domestic violence, and is being held at the Whatcom County Jail on $50,000 bail. Tucker will undergo a mental health evaluation as well.

No one was injured during the standoff.

“We’re glad that this was safely resolved and glad that we had trained negotiators to handle the situation,” Elfo said.
