We are entering into the colorful world of October at the Blaine Senior Center, and what an exciting month we have been promised.

Most of the regular classes have returned along with several exciting programs on the horizon. Come join us for a warm welcome and good fellowship.

Monday, October 8, 10 a.m.: Blaine Senior Center board meeting.

Tuesday, October 9, noon: Jim Ross from Sterling Health Plans will speak about Medicare and prescription drug plan changes. Annual enrollment period begins October 15. 

Tuesday, October 9, 1 to 3 p.m.:
Flu shots: regular, $25; high dose recommended for ages 65+, $55. Hoaglands Pharmacy can bill Medicare, Medicaid, or Medicare Advantage, and others. Info: 685-5012.

Thursday, October 11, noon:
Join us in welcoming our favorite Elvis impersonator, Michael Spinale. See the show, a movie and eat some of Elvis’s favorite foods.

Saturday, October 13, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Blaine Community Rummage Sale. 30 tables still available for only $15 each. Anyone can rent a table – you don’t need to be a Senior Center member. Costco is providing treats.

Tuesday, October 16, 11:30 a.m.: Oktoberfest and accordion music with Carl Peterson. Enjoy beer samples from Boundary Bay Brewery, pretzels and Oktoberfest snacks. Lunch will feature bratwurst, sauerkraut, hot potato salad, melon salad and apple cake.

Wednesday, October 17, noon: Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) presentation. Learn about eligibility requirements, basic information on food and medical benefits, EBT cards and Medicare Part B premium payments.

Fridays, October 19 and 26, November 2 and 9, 1:30 p.m.: Paint like Turner: JMW Turner was the premier watercolorist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries, and this class will teach his style using acrylics or watercolors. No basic drawing skills are necessary, just a willingness to play with paint and have fun. The instructor will have just returned from painting in many of the places Turner did, and will share what she learned about painting on-site. For beginning and intermediate painters. $20 for four weeks.

Saturday, October 20, 8 to 11 a.m.: Pancake Breakfast. Pancakes, waffles or French toast with fruit topping, scrambled eggs, sausage, orange juice, coffee and tea. $6 for adults, $4 for children.

Thursday, October 25, noon: Amateur Hour. Sign up in advance! Do you sing, play an instrument, do circus tricks or write poetry? Please share with us!

Wednesday, October 31, 11:30 a.m.: Celebrate Halloween. Dress in costume and win prizes at lunch. See a classic thriller in the coffee bar and trick or treat for yummy treats. BOO!!!!!

Friday, November 9, 5:30 to 8 p.m.: Community Spaghetti Feed and Bellingham Youth Jazz Band. The band features big band sounds and jazz classics; dinner includes spaghetti, green salad, garlic bread, dessert, and complimentary beverage. Adults $10, children $5. Dinner donated by Louisa House Assisted Living.

Friday and Saturday, November 30 to December 1, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Blaine Senior Center’s 6th Annual Homemade Arts & Crafts Christmas Bazaar. Homemade arts and crafts by local artisans, cookie walk, raffle, hourly door prizes and Santa on
Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free. Deli lunch will be available.
