If you drive past Good Samaritan Society-Stafholt these days, you’ll notice a strange sight. A small flock of plastic pink flamingos have staked claim to the patch of grass in front of the facility.
The pink flamingos are up for adoption through October, with the adoption fee going toward Stafholt’s staff scholarship fund.
The scholarship fund defrays the cost of continuing education for staff, many of whom are working toward their licensed practical nursing (LPN) or registered nursing (RN) degrees. Stafholt awarded $2,600 in scholarships in 2011.
A donation of $15 in honor or memory of a loved one will bring one flamingo to roost, while $60 will bring a band of five, and $120 a flock of 12. Each flamingo will have a sign with the honoree’s name. Flamingos can fly to the adoptee’s house as well and will be picked up once the fundraiser is over.
Donations can be mailed to Good Samaritan Society-Stafholt at 456 C Street, Blaine, WA 98230 or dropped off at the facility. Contributions can also be made online at good-sam.com
