The Blaine Chamber of Commerce is in the final stages of preparation for the city’s Old Fashioned Fourth of July festivities.
In addition to the noontime parade, the celebration will include more than 75 food, arts and crafts vendors on Peace Portal Drive and H Street, including Sugar N Spice Mini Donuts, Michaela Fuller Hot Dogs, Absolutely Nuts, Rollin Smoke BBQ, Laura’s Attic, Joy Elsner Jewelry, I Love My Bling/Paparazzi, Healthy Tan By Brenna, Simply Great Jerky and many more.
The day begins with a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Blaine Community Center.
Musical entertainment will get underway at 9:30 a.m. at the Pizza Factory parking lot with four Blaine High School students performing, followed by Sanoma at 10:30 a.m., The Walrus at 1:30 p.m., Sabrina y Los Reyes at 3 p.m., guitar player Kooch at 4:30 p.m., and the McNeely Family Band at 8:30 p.m.
In addition, the annual Show ’N Shine antique car show takes place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on H Street in front of city hall. Plover Ferry rides will run from noon until 8 p.m. Take the ferry and enjoy the annual Salmon BBQ at Semiahmoo Resort, from 4 to 9 p.m.
The parade begins at noon, but those interested in participating should be at Peace Portal Drive and 4th Street at the south end of downtown one to two hours ahead of time. Participants need to fill out a registration form, available online, and bring it to the line up. Volunteers will collect the registration forms and provide directions on where to go.
The Independence Day extravaganza will end with the annual fireworks show at 10:15 p.m. at Blaine Marine Park. The fireworks show is reputed to be the best in the county.
Parking will be scarcebecause of high turnout for the festivities. Limited parking will be available at the Blaine High School parking lot, Cost Cutter, the Shell station on D Street, the Duty Free store, and the parking lot across from Big Al’s Diner, but many people will have to find street parking.
