The Birch Bay Water and Sewer District (BBWSD) is planning two workshops this spring to teach Blaine and Birch Bay residents the basics of rainwater collection.
BBWSD is teaming up with the Birch Bay Watershed and Aquatic Resource Management (BBWARM) district to host classes on how to build rain barrels. The popularity of the first class last spring compelled staff to organize two more that same year, BBWSD water conservation specialist Emily Resch said.
“We only planned for one, but that was so popular it overflowed into [more classes],” Resch said.
This year’s classes are scheduled for April 28 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and May 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. Both classes will be held at the BBWSD offices at 7096 Point Whitehorn Road in Birch Bay.
Class size is limited to 20 households. Each household will be able to take home a free, pre-drilled 55-gallon barrel.
