Runners gearing up for Birch Bay road race

Birch Bay Drive will be filled with runners of all skill levels on  Saturday as the Birch Bay International Road Race enters its seventh year.

Runners can participate in a 5K, 15K or 30K race starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 31. Online registration is still open, and participants registering the day of must do so by 8:15 a.m.

The course starts at the medical clinic at the intersection of Birch Bay-Lynden and Harborview roads. The course winds along Birch Bay Drive as far south as Birch Bay State Park and as far north as the intersection with Semiahmoo Parkway.

Registration costs are $35 for the 5K, $60 for the 15K and $75 for the 30K. 5K runners will receive a cotton T-shirt while 15K and 30K runners will receive a Tek long-sleeve T-shirt.

Parking will be available along Birch Bay-Lynden Road, Birch Bay Drive, north of the race start area on Harborview and along side streets. Race organizers ask participants not to park at the Birch Bay Waterslides parking lot or between the medical clinic and Birch Bay Drive.

Serious runners, walkers and parents with children 8 years of age or older are all welcome. The race is sponsored by Total Health Events of Seattle.
