After moving from Vancouver, B.C., to Blaine about nine months ago, Janet Englehart was disheartened by the options available to pursue her yogic passion.

She ended up driving to Bellingham, or even back up to Vancouver, for yoga classes.

Englehart soon “fell in love” with a vacant space at 862 Peace Portal Drive, and as a certified instructor, she knew she could bring another yoga option to Blaine.

Namaste Hot Yoga opened March 3, and after just a few weeks, Englehart is seeing a real reaction from the community.
“I’ve had about 40 unique students,” she said, “with a lot of returning students.” She’s also just hired three new instructors to expand her business. Englehart currently teaches about 20 classes every week. With the new instructors she hopes to increase that to 25, with a lot more variety on the schedule.

Englehart’s specialty is hatha yoga in a heated environment. In hatha yoga, students hold poses for a longer time, and move through about 20 poses in a class. Practicing yoga in a heated studio allows greater flexibility much more quickly, Englehart said, along with the cleansing benefits of a whole lot of sweating.

“I’m really looking to build a yoga community here,” she said. Accordingly, she’s planning on hosting regular communal meditation sessions, with admission by donation to a local charity chosen by the students.

A full schedule of classes can be found online at www.namastehotyoga.com. Reservations are not required. Classes are $10 for drop-in students, or $100 for a 12-session pass. Call 360/389-5193 for more information.
