The Blaine school district and the ConocoPhillips Ferndale refinery need volunteers to lend a hand at the 2012 Northwest Washington State High School Math Championship Saturday, February 4, at the Blaine schools’ campus.

Volunteers are needed to serve as proctors, who will ensure teams are in the correct classroom, explain and enforce rules, and read mental math test questions aloud to the competitors. Proctors may work in pairs and do not need math skills.

Proctors start with an orientation at 8 a.m. and supervise a classroom from 9:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. There is a 30-minute break for lunch, which all proctors will receive for free.

Nearly 400 high school students from schools across Washington are expected to compete. The ConocoPhillips Ferndale refinery is sponsoring the event.
