Starting this week, ballroom dancing lessons will be available in this area. Sisters Megan and Wendy Bloom from Bellingham will be teaching classes in American-style waltz, foxtrot, tango, cha cha, rumba, East Coast swing, West Coast swing, salsa and night club two-step.

Megan has more than 17 years experience in Irish step, modern dance and ballet dance education. Wendy has an extensive background in education as well as ballroom dance. Six years ago, Megan and Wendy began dancing at Bellingham’s U and Me Dance.

Since then, the two have competed in and out of the state, performing a variety of ballroom show pieces. Although new to Blaine and Birch Bay,  Megan and Wendy have been teaching dance classes for two years.

No experience is necessary, nor is a partner.

Why dance? It’s a great way to get in your aerobic exercise! The dynamic duo explain it this way: “Ballroom dance is a full body exercise – an extraordinary way to connect with others in the community in a fun, engaging and friendly environment.”
Blaine classes began January 10 and Birch Bay classes will begin February 7. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings.

Blaine’s will be held from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the Northwood Alliance Church, 580 C Street, for a cost of $12 per lesson.

Birch Bay’s will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Birch Bay Activity Center, 7511 Gemini Street, for $58/month through NW Park & Recreation District 2.
