After serving for 12 years under outgoing Whatcom County Executive Pete Kremen, deputy county administrator Dewey Desler has announced his retirement.

Desler, 63, has worked in county government in various capacities since 1969 and often spoke on behalf of the county executive’s office at Whatcom County Council meetings.

Desler, a Bellingham resident, announced his resignation on November 4, and his last paid day as a county employee was November 30. He has said he will help provide a smooth transition between executive Kremen’s administration and that of county executive-elect Jack Louws.
