Whatcom County officials have released a list of countywide committee and board vacancies, and it includes two committees specific to the Birch Bay area.

The nine-member Birch Bay Shellfish Protection District advisory committee has one vacancy to fill for a term that expires December 31, 2012. Applicants must have a direct interest in the shellfish protection district and will be expected to advise the Whatcom County Council on proposed actions within the protection district.

The Birch Bay Watershed and Aquatic Resource Management Advisory Committee has two vacancies, each a four-year term. Applicants must live within the district boundary and be willing to advise the county council on matters dealing with the health of the Birch Bay watershed.

The county council appoints members to both committees after reviewing applications. Applications are due December 28. For information on how to apply and a full list of board and committee vacancies countywide, visit www.co.whatcom.wa.us/boards/boards.jsp.
