Students struggling in school – or those who just want to get a leg up for college – have an option for learning without ever having to leave home.

Tutor Doctor Northwest Washington, a franchise business owned by Donald and Leslee Gongaware of Blaine, provides one-on-one tutoring in students’ homes.

Along with traditional academic subjects such as math, reading and science, Tutor Doctor Northwest Washington provides qualified tutors to assist with college entrance exams, English as a Second Language (ESL) studies, General Education Development (GED) tests and specialized subjects.

“We create an individualized educational plan for each student and match tutors based on the student’s academic needs and personality,” Donald Gongaware said.

Gongaware said that demand is highest for mathematics and reading tutoring, particularly for students who are behind their grade level in proficiency. Others who may benefit from in-home tutoring include academically gifted students who need to be challenged or are seeking admission into the university of their choice.

Tutor Doctor Northwest Washington serves clients in Whatcom, Skagit and Snohomish counties and has a pool of more than 40 tutors, five of which are in the Blaine and Birch Bay area.
