U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers apprehended a Tacoma man on Wednesday, August 17, who was wanted in Pierce County for alleged failure to appear for a child molestation sexual assault charge.

Officers arrested Som Chea, 55, at the Peace Arch port of entry when it was revealed that he was the subject of a National Crime Information Center felony warrant.

“The apprehension of individuals with outstanding warrants for predatory crimes against children is critical,” Acting Area Port Director Deborah Engels said. “Safely removing these dangerous criminals from being among lawful travelers and tourists is part of the work we perform every day.”

After verification of the warrant for arrest with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, Chea was immediately taken into custody by CBP officers and turned over to the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office for extradition to Tacoma.
