Donations sought to make Fourth of July a blast

Organizers for this year’s Fourth of July event in Blaine are seeking volunteers and donations to help make the holiday a blast.  

Carroll Solomon at the Blaine Visitor Center said those interested in donating to the event can visit Blaine Cost Cutter and make a $1 or more donation at check-out stands from now until July 1.

Donations will also be accepted at Pacific Building Center, Paso Del Norte, Big Al’s, Blaine Bouquet, Blaine Liquor Outlet and Pizza Factory.

Volunteers are needed to serve as parade judges, car show judges, street traffic directors, parade marshals and registration coordinators.

In addition to the annual Show ‘N Shine antique and classic car show, the Blaine Chamber of Commerce has scheduled several live bands including Flowmotion, Sabrina y Los Reyes, Stirred Not Shaken, JP Falcon Brady and local singer and songwriter Kooch to perform in Marine Park prior to the fireworks. 

More than 75 vendors have signed up, including Neal Engledow woodworking, Monarch Rose jewelry and ceramics, Crooked Pots jewelry and pottery and Loomis Massage Therapy, DiverCities African art, Loomis Massage Therapy, Slims Pickens BBQ, Sugar N Spice Mini Donuts, Absolutely Nuts, Bay City Ice Cream, Muddy Waters Espresso, Mykes Shave Ice. Pony rides, an inflatable house, face painting and miniature train rides will be available for children.

A parade is scheduled for noon. 

Also, Northwest Parks and Recreation District 2 is seeking volunteers to help with their float, titled “Rain or Shine, We’re Steppin’ Out For Fun!” Volunteers are needed to loan or donate large umbrellas, decorate umbrellas, march in the parade and hand out information and other goodies.
