On May 31, crews from Lynden-based Stremler Gravel will start work on a $2.2 million project to improve Lincoln Road and will eventually close the road for the summer as the project progresses.

Work crews will widen the stretch of Lincoln Road between Harborview and Shintaffer to 12-foot lanes with 8-foot shoulders, in addition to adding dedicated left turn lanes to both intersections. Wetland mitigation and stormwater systems improvements will also be part of the work.

Lincoln Road will be completely closed two weeks after work is scheduled to start on May 31, according to a Whatcom County Public Works press release. Local residents will still be able to access their homes and the businesses along Lincoln Road. Alderson Road will serve as a detour route.

Construction work will go on eight hours per day, five days per week through October. For more information, contact Cecelia Thomas at 360/715-7450 or cathomas@co.whatcom.wa.us, or click here
