What a wonderful time is Spring’s arriving. We had an amazing mild winter after all with plenty of rain, instead of snow. Spring is the promise of more sunshine, brilliant blue skies, and colorful and fragrant of flowers.
The Blaine senior activity center, in line with the season, is blossoming with spring’s renewal energy by looking forward to many springtime activities.
The center is celebrating with some very special March events and classes along with the regular ongoing class and activities. Be certain that your membership is up to date, and don’t miss out on the many opportunities for fellowship, and food, and entertainment.
The strength training room is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and also Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. All those who use the gym must be a current member and have taken a Whatcom County Parks strength training class offered at the senior centers throughout the county.
9:30 to 10:20 a.m. Tai Chi for beginners taught by Wally Greenough. Everyone is welcome to join. At 10:20 a.m. on March 16, and 24 practice for the more experienced.
8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Men’s pool. Come check it out, we have cues and experts to help. Visit Dolly’s stretch class at 9:30 a.m. Maxine’s painting class is after lunch, starting at 1 p.m.
We have bridge games happening at 1 p.m. also, and are in desperate need of a few more players. Come try your skill, or learn from the experts.
March 15: From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Opportunity Council’s free weatherization presentation.
Join us and come play bingo on Wednesday, March 16. There is no charge and there are some really great prizes. On Wednesdays, there is china painting at 9 a.m., writing class at 10 am, Pinochle at 1 p.m., and on March 9 and 23 there is a photography group meeting.
8 a.m. to 2 p.m. men’s pool, 9:30 a.m. Stretch exercises, play on Wii, and at 10:30 a.m. a genealogy class. Blood pressure checks start at 11 a.m. Bridge is played at 1 p.m. and Pinochle is played at 6 p.m. in the library.
March 17: Happy St. Patrick’s Day. “Up in the Air” performs for St. Patrick’s Day. Come and listen to Celtic and Irish music played by Pam and Jimmies on fiddle and guitar.
March 24: the Blaine school district bond information presentation. Hear from Ron Spanjer, superintendent. He will discuss what is going on in our school district and details about the upcoming bond measure.
March 11: will feature a songfest and sing along with Earl Dean. Come join in the fun and sing familiar old songs.
March 12: Movie and popcorn: “Discovering Ireland.”

March 25: Blaine high school senior Shannon Freeman sings ‘40s classics and show tunes.
Saturday, March 19, is Pancake Breakfast Day. Pancakes, waffles, French toast, scrambled eggs, coffee and orange juice. Adults are only $5 and kids, $4.
Come in or call the Blaine Senior Center to schedule your appointment to have your taxes done by well-trained AARP volunteers. They will be at the center on Fridays and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon through March and April. Pick up your packet and have it filled out in advance.
