Brian Anderson first became familiar with Blaine when his wife was the head of Northwest Parks and Recreation District 2, but now he has a new reason to get to know Blaine better: He recently purchased Diamond Yacht Sales.

Anderson officially took over the business from Gary Ramberg on December 1. Since then, he has acquired 13 new listings.

With the average price tag being just under $100,000, Anderson said yacht sales have nosedived since the economy went into recession. He said he is hopeful nonetheless because interest in buying yachts has begun to rise again since 2008.

Anderson said he has focused on customer service as a hallmark of his yacht sales philosophy since he began in the business.

“My goal is to help people find the boat that’s right for them,” he said.

Two of the most important things a potential buyer must consider, besides their budget, are how often they will use the yacht and where they will be going, Anderson explained. He said he takes into consideration whether the buyer plans to sail to Mexico or will just be cruising around the San Juan Islands.

Any potential yacht buyers should not hesitate to ask Anderson for advice sailing the San Juans, since he has a great deal of experience cruising that area.

Anderson said he was raised around his parents’ yacht-building business, so boats have always been an interest of his. He started his career at Signature Yachts in Seattle in 1995, and then moved to their Bellingham office in 2002.

When the Bellingham office closed in 2009, Anderson went to work for a short time for San Juan Yachting, until Ramberg got in touch with him about taking over Diamond Yacht Sales. Anderson said he had worked with Ramberg on a few yacht sales in the past.

Most of the yachts listed by Diamond Yacht’s are moored in the Blaine Harbor, Anderson said. He said the biggest sources of boats for sale through his company are the Blaine, Birch Bay and Semiahmoo areas.

“People decide to sell their yachts and just walk in the door,” Anderson said.

Diamond Yacht Sales is located at 215 Marine Drive. Anderson can be reached at 360/332-3346.
