Two stars from the Borderite’s state tournament team of 2009 have made identical selections and are off to California to join their new football team. Jordon McCarty, who quarterbacked the Borderites to their run to state, including the stunning upset at Ferndale, and Joel Garza, the ferocious cornerstone of the Borderites defense, will be playing football at Reedley College, according to an email from the McCarty family. Garza has been playing for the Chuckanut Bay rugby team and has stayed in relatively good shape. McCarty and Garza have spent a great deal of time in the gym, according to the family, in preparation for spring football at Reedley.

The Tigers are members of the Northern California Football Alliance for junior colleges and won a Juco national championship in 2002. Reedley is located twenty miles from Fresno and both McCarty, and Garza will have to adjust to the heat of spring and early fall. Both players will be on campus when classes begin in January.
