The Blaine school board will hold a budget work session this Thursday to discuss projected revenue reductions for 2010-2011.
The board will meet on 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, in the district offices. The public is invited to listen to the discussion, though the board will take no action.
The work session is in response to the cuts to education Gov. Chris Gregoire proposed in early December.
In a press release, Blaine superintendent Ron Spanjer said the district is in the process of finding ways to reduce 2010-2011 expenditures by about $400,000. Spanjer also predicted reductions in programs and possibly staff for the 2011-2012 school year.
“The compounding loss of revenue from the State will make sustaining existing program levels impossible. We cannot spend money that we do not have,” he said.
