Blaine Senior Activity Center folks are looking forward to a wonderful August. August, a time for wrapping up a pleasant summer and an anticipated swing into Fall.
Our Blaine Senior/ Activity Center was closed Wednesday, August 4. That was the day of the County's Senior Centers annual picnic. This is always a well loved event in the beautiful park like setting of Hovander Park.
Friday, August 6: Movie and Popcorn. Remember way back in the 1960s that popular movie,Blue Hawaii with Elvis Presley? Return to an earlier time when Chadwik Gates (Presley) has just gotten out of the army and is happy to be back in Hawaii with his surfboard his beach buddies and his girlfriend.
Thursday, August 12: Our noon program features the return of Michael Spinale as Elvis, with a blue Hawaii theme, come enjoy this fun performance.
Friday, August 13: 11 a.m. Tour of Dakota Creek Winery and hear the winery story. Sign up at the front desk if you wish to go.
Friday, August 13: 6-9 p.m. Scrabble Night-Bring your favorite snack.
Saturday, August 14: Noon. Saturday Showtime: Change of Habit - Elvis & Mary Tyler Moore An socially-conscious young doctor starts a free-clinic in New York's Hispanic neighborhood, but soon finds himself falling for a young nun, who works as a nurse in his clinic.

Wednesday, August 18: Noon Talk Rhonda Delaney, a Totally Chocolate sales manager will tell us about this Blaine business and bring samples! You wouldn’t want to miss thisone!
Thursday, August 19: Birthday lunch at noon. Michelle Berry will sing and play piano. At 1 p.m., tour Loomis Hall and artist’s lofts. Judi Williamson, Loomis Hall artist and current Blaine Senior Center watercolor painting teacher will tell us about the facility and give us a short tour of the gallery and artist lofts. There are stairs in the building – no elevator. Meet at the Blaine Senior Center to carpool 12:45 p.m. or meet at1 at Loomis Hall Sign up at the front desk if you wish to go.
Friday, August 20: Movie and Popcorn - African Queen Humphrey Bogart (Oscar performance) and Katharine Hepburn costar as an unlikely pair thrown together in Africa during the WWI. Bogart is the gin-soaked skipper of a none-too-reliable steam launch. Hepburn’s a Methodist missionary who determines that the Queen should be used to attack a large German gunboat patrolling a lake downriver. 1951.
Saturday, August 21: Showtime- On Golden Pond Henry Fonda plays a prickly 80 year old English professor. Visiting his summer house by a Maine lake with his wife (Katharine Hepburn) the old man forges an unlikely bond with a lonely boy and comes to terms with his daughter (Jane Fonda) 1981.
Tuesday, August 24: 10:30 a.m. Demo: Carol Simmer will make Smoothies. Cool off this summer and learn about how to make delicious smoothies with Carol Simmer, San Juan Nutrition Project dietician.
Wednesday, August 25: Bingo with prizes. Sponsored by Blackberry House Cafe.
Thursday, August 26: 10:30 to 2 p.m. Picnic at Peace Arch State Park. Come play Bocce ball, eat grilled hamburgers and enjoy the Summertime Old Time Fiddlers, sponsored by Sterling Health Plans.
Friday, August 27: Movie and Popcorn - Zorba the Greek
Saturday, August 28: Showtime - Long Hot Summer Paul Newman, a drifter, catches the eye of schoolmarm WooStart practicing for the coming September amateur talent show. Sign up at the front desk, and let us know what you would like to do.
