The city of Blaine will be able to improve the portion of H Street that leads into downtown thanks to a $450,000 federal grant.
The city’s application for the grant was approved within the last week, said public works director Steve Banham.
Most of the money will go toward improving the surface of H Street and making it more visually congruent with the other streets leading into downtown Blaine, he said.
The original construction on that portion of H Street ran out of money before the final layer of asphalt was put down, city manager Gary Tomsic said.
A smaller portion of the grant, $35,000 of the total amount, will pay for paving the section of gravel trail that runs near Peace Portal Drive, Tomsic said.
Banham said the city is still in the designing phases of the project and could not predict a finishing date.
