The Blaine school district has released a preliminary budget overview for the upcoming school year.
The overview includes general figures on how much the district expects to gain and lose in the 12 months following Sept. 1, 2010. During the 2010-2011 school year, the district expects to take in $20,787,864 to its general fund while spending $21,266,276.
The expenditures figure is higher than the expected revenue because the expenditures include $412,333 carried over from the 2009-2010 school year.
The district estimates the 2010-2011 beginning balance for the general fund will be $1,856,406.
The general fund pays for most district operations, which include child instruction, food service, transportation, maintenance and administration, according to the budget overview.
The district will make a revised version of the budget overview available to the public on August 6.
Members of the public are welcome to attend an August 12 budget hearing to voice their concerns and learn more about the district’s 2010-2011 budget.
The district expects to adopt the 2010-2011 budget at their regular board meeting on August 23.
