Those wanting a say in a proposed bus service reduction to Blaine should attend a public hearing at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 30 at the Whatcom County Courthouse council chambers.

The Whatcom Transit Authority (WTA) will seek public input on a revised service reduction proposal that would include the elimination of a mid-day trip of route 55 to Blaine and Birch Bay, route 28X to Ferndale, as well as all Sunday services, including specialized transportation.

The change comes after Whatcom County voters said they didn’t support a two-tenths of 1 percent tax increase that would have increased public transit service county-wide.

Revisions to the proposal were based on comments received at a public hearing on May 19. Once finalized, service reductions are scheduled to take effect on September 19. Those unable to comment in person can comment by sending an e-mail to  or by leaving a message at 715-4500.  Comments must be received before 3 p.m. on June 28.

For questions regarding the proposal, call Rick Nicholson at 738-4585 or email rickn@ridewta.com.
