Here we are in the merry month of May, how wonderful! Here in the Blaine senior center, we are enjoying every minute of it. There are many things to do. There was a tremendous rummage sale to begin the month and that was enjoyed by crowds of people.
The center will be celebrating Cinco De Mayo May 5th, with a Mexican lunch, a pinata and at 1 p.m., Dr. Merry’s Nomad Travel-Mexico. The following day, at 1 p.m., there will be a movie and popcorn, Julie And Julia with Meryl Streep.
Friday, May 7 at noon, there will be the Pakawalups, a Mother’s Day Salute! Celebrate Mother’s Day with a “patriotic” show that includes songs made famous by the talented Andrews Sisters and other great artists. We are all about “keeping memories alive and hearts and spirits dancing!” The group is named after their father’s favorite plane, a B-17 pilot during WWII.
The center will be closed Saturday, May 8, so the floors can be maintained, but will be open again Monday. There will be an open board meeting Monday, and the election results will be announced. On Tuesday, May 11 at 10:30 a.m. we will discover more about Brigadoon assistance dogs.
With the help of the youth of the community, dogs are trained to provide assistance to children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities.
Come and meet one of these wonderful dogs. Come back at 5 p.m. for game and snack night.
Thursday, May 13 at noon, will feature Dr. Roy Nicholson Canine chiropractor, come learn about the benefits of animal chiropractic.
Come back again on Thursday for movie and popcorn and watch Pink Panther, which is a Peter Sellers classic. The very popular pancake breakfast is Saturday, May 15 from 8 to 11 a.m. Choices of pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs, and more will be served.
On Tuesday, May 18 at noon, Alice Robb, Circle of Life Cooperative Caregiver, coordinator, will discuss what options and resources are available for in-home care. Tuesday will also be a cookie baking day.
Come and help in the kitchen, baking cookies for the center’s coffee bar.
Wednesday, May 19 at 10 a.m. will feature Building Healthy Bodies for a Lifetime. How much activity is needed each week to maintain a strong and healthy body, aerobic exercise or resistance training and which one is better for overall health? What other benefits can strength and resistance training provide as we age? These issues will be discussed, along with participating in exercises with instructions and a resistance band to take home.
Thursday, May 20 at noon, Laurel Bliss & John Clark Old Time Country Favorites will help celebrate the birthday lunch with vocals, banjo, fiddle and guitar.
Friday, May 21 at 1 p.m. we will have a movie with popcorn, The Bucket List.
Saturday, May 22nd at noon, another movie, Homeward Bound the Incredible Journey. Saturday morning, May 22, 11 a.m. to noon, learn to make the Filipino noodle dish “Pancit.”
This dish is a national favorite especially used on birthdays to signify a long life. The dish includes rice noodles, vegetables, chicken and more. Cost is $5.
Monday, May 24, we will have Bingo, with prizes. Tuesday, May 25 at noon, will be gluten intolerance information. What to avoid and why you should be concerned.
Thursday, May 27 at noon, will feature an emergency response link.
Saturday, May 29 at noon, we bring a movie and popcorn, Seven Brides For Seven Brothers. The center will be closed Monday, May 31, in honor of Memorial Day. Have a great month of May, the folks at the Blaine senior center are certainly planning on a great month.
