What a wonderful time is spring’s arrival. 

We had an amazing mild winter and spring is promise of even more sunshine, bright skies, and the colorful and  fragrant flowers. Spring is the arrival of new birth, not only in the meadows and forests, but also in our own renewal of mind and spirit. The Blaine Senior Center, in line with the season,  is blossoming with spring’s renewal energy with many activities.

The Blaine Senior Center is celebrating some very special March events and classes along with the regular ongoing class and activities:

Thursday and Friday, March 11 and 12 10 a.m.:  Beginning knitting class, learn the basics of knitting.

Thursday, March 16 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.:  How to use a handheld GPS  Want to learn how to use one? If you have one bring it along, if not come and see what they can do! Be sure you have fresh batteries or that it is charged. Register in advance.

Thursday, March 4, 10:30 a.m.: Genealogy class. Let’s discover our family history together.  Learn the basics, or you have already started your family history, come and share and learn more about this very fascinating  subject.

April 6, 2 p.m.: Strength Training Class - begins and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays.  There is a $60 fee for this class and preregistration and a medical release are required.

Membership center renewal for 2010!

If you have not done so, please remember that it is time to renew your membership at the Blaine Senior Center. 
Receive a bulletin, come exercise, play pool, socialize, use our library, and participate in many other interesting activities with your membership.

Fridays and Saturdays: AARP  tax assistance. Call 332-8040 or come to the center to schedule the free service and pick up your packet of preparation information.

Tuesday, March 2, noon: Information about arthritis and pain relief.  

Friday, March 5, 1 p.m.: Movie and popcorn, The Quiet Man, a John Wayne classic.

Saturday, March 6, 11 a.m.: Laura Jacoby Magic Lantern Picture Show a talk and collection of historical Whatcom
County Photographs. The photographs are from the collection of her grandfather, Galen Biery.

Saturday, March 6, noon: Community potluck, bring what you like or choose a special recipe from the Blaine Senior Center cookbook, Timeless Recipes.  Place settings, coffee will be provided.

Monday, March 8, 10 a.m.: Blaine Senior Center board meeting

Tuesday, March 9, noon: Graham Hunter. Graham was a commercial airline pilot for 31 years.;  He shares his reflections and experiences of flying from Vancouver to Europe and throughout North America.

Thursday, March 11: Tovah Rainsong, vocals and guitar, Irish springtime favorites and more!

Friday, March 12: Movie and popcorn: Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

Saturday Showtime, March 13: Bring your lunch, we will have popcorn and watch the movie, Little Miss Sunshine.

Wednesday, March 17, noon: The Wearing of the Green!  Wear green, special entertainment and Irish poems.

Wednesday, March 17, 1 p.m.: In Search of Ancient Ireland.

Thursday, March 18, noon: Jeff Fox accordion music and piano.  Polkas Scandinavian Polish Czech and popular songs of ‘20s and ‘30s.  Jeff is a terrific musician and is known for playing the Mighty Wurlitzer at the Mt. Baker Theatre for silent films.

Friday, Marcy 19, 1 p.m.: Pancake breakfast. Pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, sausage, eggs and more!

Tuesday, March 23, noon: Senior information and assistance gatekeeper program information.

Friday, March 26, noon: Don and Jean Lotze Impressions of China. See a slide show and hear experiences from Don and Jean who were teachers for two years in the Canton region of China.

Saturday, March 27, noon: We’ll have popcorn and a movie, March of the Penguins.

Wednesday, March 31, 12:20 to 1:30 p.m.: Bingo with prizes sponsored by Meadow Green!
