The Birch Bay Food Pantry is expanding its operation from one to two days per month starting immediately, said volunteer coordinator Lynne Chapman.
The facility will be open from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the first and third Monday of the month, which means that the next day of operation will be Monday, January 18.
Located at 4672 Loft Lane, the Birch Bay Food Pantry shares space with the Boys and Girls Club in a small building in a neighborhood off Alderson Road. Chapman emphasized that the food pantry is not a substitute for the Blaine Food Bank, which is a much larger, broader program.
The program relies on donations of food and financial contributions from local area residents and businesses. Non-perishable items may be brought to the food bank during operating hours. There is also a need for volunteers. Chapman said she’s looking for people who can work once a month for two to three hours. Financial contributions can be made out to CAP Birch Bay Food Pantry and sent to the Community Assistance Program, P.O. Box 1067, Blaine, WA 98231.
