Gift drive benefits soldiers in honor of Aamot

A group of Whatcom County residents have organized a holiday gift drive in honor of Spc. Aaron Aamot, 22, of Custer, and his friend, Gary Gooch, both of whom were killed while serving in Jelewar, Afghanistan.

Aamot, a 2006 Ferndale high school graduate was killed November 5 after the vehicle he was traveling in was struck by an improvised explosive device.

Individuals wishing to donate gifts of unopened food, sports equipment, entertainment items, hygiene supplies or cash donations can do so until November 30 at Whatcom County People’s Bank locations as well as Print & Copy Factory at 4055 Irongate Road in Bellingham.

Items can also be dropped off at Whatcom County fire district stations 41, 43, 46, 21, 22 and 25. For more information, email HolidayGiftDriveforHeroes@gmail.com.
