Organizers of Birch Bay’s new food pantry have found a new location for their facility. Beginning Monday, October 5 from 10:30 a.m. until noon, those in need of food supplies can go to the Boys & Girls Club building at 4672 Loft Lane off Alderson Road.

Sponsored by the Community Assistance Program, coordinator Lynne Chapman and her daughter, Sue Maconaghie, opened the monthly pantry last November on the porch of the C Shop.

“We found that some people can’t get the help they need because they don’t have transportation. We’re not competing with other services but are interested in getting the help closer to the people who need it,” Chapman said, adding that from last November to June of this year her program helped 35 families at least once.

“We took July and August off to reorganize,” she said, “and now will continue with the schedule of being open on the first Monday of each month.”
