The annual Run To The Border race to benefit Girls On The Run of northwest Washington is back.
The 5K event is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday, June 6 and is a scholarship fundraiser for Girls On The Run, an organization that encourages young girls to celebrate their “girl power” and to celebrate health and inspiration, according to race organizer and Blaine school teacher Dan Persse.
The organization “uses the power of running to help prepare girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.”
There is a 1.5 mile Kid’s Fun Run that involves six laps of the Blaine school track while the 5K run winds through residential neighborhoods to Peace Arch State Park and back. The course is flat and fast and stroller and jogger friendly.
The 5K race is open to all ages and both sexes. If registration is received before May 23, the entry fees range from $11 – $18 and includes a race t-shirt.
Registrations received after that date cost from $5 - $14 and do not include t-shirts. Past GOTR participants can run free but they must be registered. To register, go online to www.runtotheborder.org
