Police make arrest in string of Blaine burglaries

By Jack Kintner

Police arrested Travis C. Watson, 18, of Blaine, last Sunday and booked him into the Whatcom County Jail on suspicion of burglary and theft.

Watson and others are alleged to have burglarized the Texaco station at 347 D Street, known as Crazy Dazy’s. The station was broken into and robbed twice in September and again last Thursday.

“We made significant progress on the last burglary,” said Blaine police chief Mike Haslip, “and got some good evidence on this latest one. We are actively continuing our investigation.”

In all three instances the thieves used a large boulder to smash in the glass doors on the east side of the station. Cameras showed them returning multiple times to carry out more merchandise, a lot of it alcohol and tobacco, Haslip said.

He added that residents who spot suspicious activity are encouraged to call the police. “Every little bit helps,” he said, “because we can’t be everywhere. Such calls are a significant source of information for us, and it is a legitimate reason to call 911.” During business hours callers are also encouraged to use the business number at 332-6769.
