Medicare talks feature local doctors
Seminars are scheduled in Birch Bay for a new Medicare Advantage plan that includes Family Care Network physicians.
The plan has Birch Bay physicians, no premium, dental, vision, preventive care, transportation and drug coverage.
Seminars on a new Medicare Advantage program available for first time in Whatcom County on January 1, called Essence Advantage, will be Tuesday, November 21 and Friday, November 24, both at 1 p.m., at CJ’s Beach House Restaurant in Birch Bay. Refreshments will be served.
Doctors from the 13 clinic Family Care Network, include Bruce Pederson and John Hiemstra in Birch Bay and six doctors in Lynden, are part of the plan’s network that also includes St. Joseph Hospital in Bellingham.
“Now through December 31 is the annual enrollment period when Medicare beneficiaries can change plans or enroll in a new plan like Essence,” explains Paddy Cottrell, Essence managing general agent, who will conduct the seminar.
“And according to the Medicare.gov website, the plan has the lowest out-of-pocket cost to consumers of any of the 50 Medicare Advantage Plans offered in Whatcom County.”
Information in the seminar will also include how to qualify and apply for the low income subsidy through Social Security that virtually eliminates out-of-pocket expenses for prescription drugs for couples earning less than $18,000 per year.
