Contest shows off holiday recipes
By Tara Nelson
A group of Blaine businesses along with the Blaine Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a holiday cookie baking contest. Residents of Blaine, Birch Bay and Point Roberts are invited to bring a plate of at least six of their favorite home-made cookie to the Seaside Bakery on Peace Portal Drive in Blaine between 2 and 3 p.m. December 2.
Judges there will determine the winning recipe, which will be featured as “cookie of the year.“
The creator of the winning recipe will receive a prize basket donated by members of the Blaine Chamber of Commerce and the recipe will be printed in The Northern Light and used in the future creation of a holiday cookie of the year cook book.
A portion of the proceeds from cookie sales will be donated to the Blaine Food Bank.
The recipe must be an original recipe created by the baker or family member of the baker and cannot be borrowed from other cookbooks. The baker must also allow the recipe to be printed in the newspaper and the Seaside Bakery to sell cookies made from the recipe.
No profits from the sale of the cookie or future cookie books will go to the baker and any donation of profits will go to the Blaine Food Bank.
The contest is co-sponsored by The Northern Light newspaper, Seaside Bakery and The Circle of Trees art studio. For more information, call 332-8082.
