Deal reached for Birch Bay Square

A California corporation has signed a lease and plans to open an upscale grocery at Birch Bay Square by November. Hancock Park Associates of Los Angeles, which recently acquired the Brown & Cole grocery chain, owner of Blaine’s Cost Cutter Market, has signed a long-term lease on the grocery building at the north end of the mall at Birch Bay-Lynden Road and Peace Portal, according to usually reliable sources within the real estate industry.
Birch Bay Square project site manager Kevin Burke said that while he could “confirm that a formal agreement has been reached, the company the agreement has been reached with has requested that they make any formal announcements, and we’re going to honor that.”
Burke also said that the Starbucks outlet at the mall will be opening “on the same time frame as the grocery store,” Burke said.
Mall developers Adam and Jared Ware and Hancock Park Associates were unavailable for comment as of press time.
