Blaine PE teacher wins national recognition

Blaine resident and teacher Dan Persse will be honored as the Northwest District Elementary School Physical Education Teacher of the Year by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) at its national convention in Fort Worth, Texas, April 8 through 12.

The Northwest District represents a five-state area from Idaho to Alaska. The Northwest District Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award is given in recognition of outstanding teaching performance at the elementary school level and the ability to motivate youth to participate in exercise.

Persse, who has worked as a Blaine physical education teacher for 12 years, will vie with five other district winners for the National Physical Education Teacher of the Year. The winner will be announced on Friday, April 11.

Kathy Newport, principal of Blaine elementary school said Dan has passionately worked with students in the Blaine school district teaching and has encouraged them to “work hard and work smart.”
