Jern's-McKinney staffs Blaine facility

A long-time funeral chapel in Blaine has staffed its local office to offer residents here a more convenient option.

Jern's-McKinney Funeral Chapel, part of the Jern’s & Jern’s- McKinney Funeral Chapels company of Whatcom County, opened its local office earlier this month.

The building at 464 8th Street has been owned by Jern’s company since 1988 to service its Blaine clients but, until now, has not been available for appointments.

New owners Terry Lineaweaver and Brad Bytnar took over the ownership in October of 2007 and have since remodeled the building’s
interior and began work on the landscaping.

“It’s still a work in progress, though,” Bytnar said.

Assistant director Cheryll Dumont added that the company is offering the free use of its space for community groups who would need a place to hold meetings. The room can fit approximately 100 people, she said.

“We want to help get rid of the stigma traditionally associated with
funeral chapels and be more of a community center,” Dumont said. “If people just want to stopby and say hi or have a cup of coffee, that
would be great, too.”

Jerns-McKinney Funeral Chapel is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily and is located at 464 8th Street in Blaine.
