2007 in Review
Blaine Chamber of Commerce
By Gail Kruk
We hosted our 8th Annual Bite of Blaine in February. Folks attending this event had the opportunity to sample “bites” as prepared by our local restaurants and food service organizations.
This event serves as the chamber’s annual dinner, but is also our major fundraiser for the Fourth of July event. We would like to extend our heart felt thanks to the restaurants who graciously volunteered their time, services and food for this event.
Our Old Fashioned 4th of July was a huge success again. We received very positive feedback on this family friendly event. We focused on expanding the street fair, the live music as well as the fireworks this year. This event is successful because of the contributions made by many businesses and individuals in our community. Special thanks to Carroll Solomon, Glenn Tuski and Pam Christianson for their major contributions to this event.
The Holiday Harbor Lights celebration in conjunction with the Sweet Road Artisans Alliance Winterfest 2007 on December 1 made for a terrific full day of events. Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived in Blaine on the Plover and were brought downtown on an antique fire truck.
Downtown businesses participated in a harbor light competition. Blaine truly was a winter wonderland.
None of our events would occur without the help from many volunteers, too many to name. However, as I step down as president, there are two very special people that I would like to thank. The first being Pam Christianson for all her years of service to the chamber as president and board member, the second being Gary Tomsic, who has been responsible for scheduling the speakers for our monthly lunch meetings over many years.
On behalf of the board I wish you all a very happy and successful 2008!
